About Us:
We, Institute of Quantum Materials & Devices at LAM, are a dynamic and innovative research team dedicated to pushing the boundaries of condensed matter physics and quantum materials. Our mission is to unravel the complexities of quantum electronic phases in solid-state systems and develop predictive frameworks that can guide the discovery of novel materials with transformative properties. We are seeking a passionate and creative theoretician to join our team and tackle one of the most challenging and exciting problems in modern physics:
-- Enhancing the prediction power of quantum electronic phases in solid-state materials.
Job Description:
Your work will involve a combination of solid-state theory, quantum many-body theory and numerical techniques, first principles calculations, artificial intelligence, and other innovative approaches to address this grand challenge. You will collaborate closely with experimentalists, theorists and computational scientists to bridge theory and experiment, driving the discovery of new quantum materials and phenomena.
Key Responsibilities:
- Employ and advance state-of-the-art many-body numerical methods and/or first principles computational methods, including one or more of the following: Density Functional Theory (DFT), dynamical mean-field theory (DMFT), GW, exact diagonalization, quantum Monte Carlo, density matrix renormalization group, tensor networks, and other many-body numerical techniques.
- Collaborate with experimental teams to validate theoretical predictions, explain unresolved experimental phenomena and guide the synthesis of new materials.
- Publish high-quality and impactful research in leading scientific journals and present findings at international conferences.
- Mentor students and junior researchers and contribute to the intellectual growth of the team.
- Apply for national and regional funds, and lead these research projects.
Qualifications:
2. Strong background in quantum mechanics, statistical mechanics, and solid-state physics.
3. Expertise in one or more of the following areas:
- 3.1 First-principles electronic structure calculations (e.g., DFT, GW, DMFT).
- 3.2 Many-body theory and model Hamiltonian approaches.
- 3.3 Machine learning/AI applications in physics or materials science.
- 3.4 Many-body numerical methods for quantum systems (e.g., quantum Monte Carlo, exact diagonalization, density matrix renormalization group, tensor networks, etc.).
- 3.5 Proficiency in programming (Python, C++, Fortran, or similar) and experience with high-performance computing.
- 3.6 A track record of innovative research, demonstrated by publications in top-tier journals.
- 3.7 Strong problem-solving skills, creativity, and a passion for tackling complex theoretical challenges.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Familiarity with quantum materials, such as superconductors, topological insulators, or strongly correlated systems.
- Would be a bonus if experienced in advanced machine learning techniques (e.g., neural networks, reinforcement learning) and their application to physics problems.
What We Offer:
2. Opportunities to work on high-impact, interdisciplinary projects at the forefront of condensed matter physics and materials science.
3. Competitive salary and benefits package.
4. Support for professional development, including conference travel and training opportunities.
How to Apply:
Interested candidates should submit the following materials to jpliu@lam.ln.cn or liujp@shanghaitech.edu.cn with the subject line "Theoretical Physicist Application to IQMD, LAM - [Your Name]":
2. A detailed CV, including a list of publications.
3. Contact information for at least 2 professional references.
Application Deadline:
September 1, 2025.
